Resources Summit
On December 6th, 2007, senior academic and administrative leaders from across the University of Illinois gathered at a “Resources Summit” to begin discussions on how best to finance the future plans and strategic priorities of the institution given limited resources. The recent rate of revenue growth at the University had been quite strong and was not likely to increase significantly in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the University must become more proficient at managing central costs at all levels, focusing its existing resources in order to better support the core academic mission and achieve its aspirations.
Over the next several months, Planning and Administration units will be providing support to senior University leaders in conducting a careful and thoughtful examination of the University’s administrative and academic cost structures, ultimately resulting in necessary changes in resource allocation. The underlying goal of this initiative is to free up resources that can be directed to the University of Illinois’ academic frontlines: faculty lines, salaries, and support; teaching and research programs; and student support.
